About Me

close up of human hand

I’m a young(ish) professional who has worked hard to develop my skills, and  now I’m a senior security engineer who enjoys writing about how we can all better ourselves – while sharing some tips I’ve learned the hard way.

I worked in my first position for a couple of years, absorbing everything I could, doing my best to out-perform peers, and I even started some side hustles and businesses outside of work. It wasn’t long before I was rewarded for all of that hard work, and I’m now in a position where I feel comfortable with my finances.

I like breaking things down for the layman – for people who may not have advanced knowledge of personal finance topics yet. Don’t get me wrong, I like doing a deep dive when I can, but I write everything with the mindset of dropping the jargon and making it readable and usable for everyone – regardless of their professional background. It is my personal belief that everyone should have access to as many resources as possible to improve themselves and their finances. Bitter to Richer helps me provide that for many people.

Part of the reason I started Bitter to Richer is because of all the people I know who spend their time whining. Friends and coworkers are constantly complaining about how hard life is these days (as if everyone in the past had it so much easier), and how much they would love to be able to afford living on just one of their salaries so someone can stay at home to raise the kids or start a business. Some even try to claim that you need to spend thousands on college just to break past a few dollars above minimum wage.

So I decided to start this blog to share some of the “secrets” of how you can achieve your own success. The goal here is to put the bitterness in the past and just focus on getting richer – in your personal life as well as your finances. I’m not here to tell you that my way is the best way or even a good way for you – I’ll just provide everything I’ve learned on the path to my goals, and hopefully you’ll find some of it useful too. As long as you keep reading, I’ll keep learning and sharing as much as I can!

I don’t claim to be the expert on all things finance, but I do my best to keep the information as simple and straightforward as possible. If you have concerns about how something you’ve read relates to your own situation, speak with a financial consultant to make sure you’re doing the thing that makes sense given your specific circumstance.

What I do

Career

As an engineer in the cybersecurity industry I do something that I genuinely enjoy at my 9-to-5 while maintaining a healthy work/life balance and an income that is comfortably upper middle class.

Entrepreneurship

After starting several side hustles and businesses, I have learned many of the contributing factors for success as well as failure – in my opinion everyone should try to create a small business or pursue freelancing. The skills that you learn are invaluable (not to mention the potential payouts).

Budget, Save, & Invest

It is never too soon to plan your financial future, and doing it too late can be crippling. I wanted my own house, financial independence, and to provide a good life for my family – what do you want?
